Autumn Love

Autumn is such a cozy time of year. I enjoy sitting outside in the late afternoon with my creamy cup of chai tea. It's watching the slow turning of the leaves to brilliant shades of multi colors, hearing the anxious honking of the geese flying past (and they are noisy buggers, lol) and an occasional hoot of a hunting owl, that for some unknown reason, I find very comforting. Thoughts of the coming winter chill and all the complications that winter brings are on the back burner for now. Right now, today, I'm reveling in the gorgeousness of the clear blue sky and the crisply cool air.

This is the time of year that I start to work on my dolls and and other fabric projects. The Bone Sisters were able to make their appearance a little earlier this year, they showed up in August.

AnnaBella is heading to Georgia for trick or treats.

Wensdae is happily sharing a shelf of honor in NY with two other of these mischievous pixies.

Aranea and her spider buddy are still waiting to travel.

Others have made their way to lovely homes, I have so much fun fun creating these little Halloween pixies. This coming week I will be working on new designs, the Harvest Moon will be featured.....

Thank you for visiting.

Summer of Distraction

When you depend on your creativity to support and enhance your life, becoming distracted can lead to a major creative block. At least that has happened to me this summer. Many distractions have been enjoyable, such as time with my grandson, time with family members and friends, gazing at the night sky with a glass of chardonnay.....

Other distractions I let deeply affect me, I allowed them to live in my head for far too long. To put briefly, they were but bumps in my road, lessons learned and life goes on.

Maura is currently available in my Etsy Shop, other Bone Sisters will be listed soon.

Gallery Art Shows

This little blog of mine has been neglected for far too long and if you have been stopping by and reading my older posts I thank you very much!

I have been busy, with four back to back group shows. I am so blessed to be a part of a few artist groups and all the participating artists are so talented and amazing people to know.

I have been playing around with a new technique for me, I'm trying to loosen up and develop a different style. I'm calling this a impressionistic/pointillism type style.

This was my section of the gallery wall at Live 4 Art in the lovely village of Pawling, NY. We will be back there in October.  The small riverscape sold, thank you Mary!

This series of tiny birds is currently in the Spring Pop-up at Mid Hudson Arts on rt.44 in Poughkeepsie along with a few other artworks and pendants.

This saw whet owl is also in that show.

Just smile nice I asked.....lol!

And I did some target shooting and this is currently on display on my refrigerator :)

I hope you all have an amazing week!

Catching Up....

This post has been saved as a draft since last May. Originally I, very cleverly, entitled it "Lilacs". I love this picture of the lilacs from my yard so the photo stays, lol. Lilacs fill my house with a fragrance that always reminds me of sunny spring mornings that are filled with anticipation of a lovely day. Unfortunately they don't last long once cut, but their beauty is stunning.

What a year since these lilacs graced my dining room table, many happy days, many sad days. My family and I have had a most devastating loss of my husband last October, preceded by a very rough summer. So that is why I haven't been contributing to any posts here, it's been difficult to share anything creative since my mind has been shattered into many parts.

Having the seclusion of a very cold winter and a pandemic lock down has given me time to reflect, to remember the good and to release the bad.

I have been in the loving embrace of my family and friends who have been my saving graces, each and every one contributing to helping me heal. For this I am eternally grateful, how did I get so blessed to have the family and friends that I have?

Very slowly I am coming back to what gives me peace and calmness, working at my drawing table and easel. The canvas and boards have been prepped for months now, it's time to get busy!

Thank you for stopping by.

Happy Spring!

Spring is here, no matter what else is going on in the world, spring is here!
I brought in some magnolia buds to force, the bunnies and I are waiting patiently.....

Since my last post, which was way too long ago, things have been very active. Christmas time was so busy with my lovely customers supporting me, I felt truly blessed.
Family and friends as always, have been such a rock for me. I had a few very significant losses last year that made it almost impossible to concentrate for very long. Still I am muddling through....

But then I also am blessed to have this guy in my life....
He keeps me grounded and I love him dearly.

With this time inside I am hoping to do a lot of finishing up of past projects and starting new ones. The itch to do some oil painting is pushing at me and some sewing and some paperclay sculpting and more collages.

This bread recipe is one that I go to over and over again and it's so comforting to have a freshly baked loaf of bread cooling on the counter. Just google Jim Lahey's overnight, no knead bread recipe.
It's yummy!

I hope that this silly little post finds you all happy and healthy!
Stay put, bake bread, paint..!!

Enjoying the Hudson River

Living in small cities and towns along the Hudson River,
we're constantly reminded of it's ever changing beauty. Morning
to evening, day to day and season to season it never fails to
intrigue and delight. However, the warm months allow me
to get close access to the shoreline as some access roads are
closed during the icy months. So a few times a week we
are spending delightful time there with our little grandson.

He (and we) love to investigate the shore line to find what curiosity
 has appeared at low tide.

River glass and interesting stones seem to be the most intriguing.

A small family of Canadian Geese, so lovely to look at, but messy things......

The little man is getting really good at skipping stones!

If I lived in this house I would probably never move from the veranda!

I just have to be content with sitting here occasionally.....gorgeous isn't it?

Studio Photography

Taking photos of my pendants has been a challenge. Trying to
minimize the reflections on the glass dome covering the artwork
is probably best left to the professionals. However that delightful service
is not in my budget (yet).

This picture taken with my Pixel phone is not too bad, I am sure that a professional could make it much better, but for my purposes I'm pleased. There is a slight bit of reflective glare on the right side but not enough to be distorting. If you look closely, you can see my reflection in the bail, lol!

So this is what I've come up with using my photo box that my son gifted me for  Christmas one year. I placed a piece of fabric across the top.

It's set up near the window to get the natural diffused light on one side and the clip on light on the other. After I set up the shot, the white fabric gets pulled down in front and just my arms and camera poke through.

There is quite a bit of revision made after each shot but I can do that immediately after each one.

I do love this phone's camera....

Thank you for stopping by and have a lovely day!
